Greetings Remington Elementary School Families,

A fire alarm was activated this afternoon at approximately 1:35 p.m. RES administrators immediately evacuated the school. All students moved quickly and safely out of the building while our partners at the Colorado Springs Fire Department dispatched a crew to RES.

Administrators learned a student pulled the alarm, but there was no active fire and no threat to students or staff. Everyone safely returned to normal activities at 1:48 p.m., approximately 12 minutes after the initial alarm.

D49 thanks our partners at the Colorado Springs Fire Department and encourages all of our staff, students and families to stay alert for anything unusual. D49 will continue to be proactive and partner with first responders to ensure a safe learning environment awaits every District 49 learner.

Sincerely,

Greetings Remington Elementary School Families,

At approximately 12:20 Wednesday afternoon RES staff noticed the smell of smoke in the building. RES administrators immediately called 911 and evacuated the school. All students moved quickly and safely to their evacuation points outside while our partners at the Colorado Springs Fire Department dispatched a crew to RES.

CSFD searched the building and discovered the smell was likely coming from a house fire happening at the same time in a neighborhood a few blocks from RES. Fire crews assured administrators the school is not at risk and gave the all clear to return to normal activities at 12:35 p.m, approximately 15 minutes after the initial alarm.

D49 thanks our partners at the Colorado Springs Fire Department and encourages all of our staff, students and families to stay alert for anything unusual. D49 will remain proactive and partner with first responders to ensure a safe learning environment awaits every District 49 learner.

Sincerely,

David Nancarrow
Director of Communications
Good morning Remington Elementary School family,

District 49's safety and security team selected RES for a lockdown drill on Monday, September 30.

This drill started at approximately 11:00 a.m. as part of ongoing efforts to continuously strengthen our safety procedures. Drills like this help your school maintain a safe atmosphere and remain prepared in case of an emergency. In the event of an actual emergency, you would be notified via a phone message, text, and/or email.

Please take this opportunity to review and update the emergency contact information you have registered in parent portal.

Please contact Dave Watson, District 49 safety and security director, with any questions.

Sincerely,

David Nancarrow
Director of Communications

Dear Remington Elementary Families,

On Thursday at approximately 8:35 a.m. our law enforcement partners at the CSPD told RES administrators, D49 safety and security as well as the SRO about an effort to arrest a wanted individual at a home in a nearby neighborhood. Out of an abundance of caution, RES administrators initiated a lockout status at RES as police continued their investigation. Students and staff remained inside the buildings, and the schools restricted visitors, which follows our lockout procedures.

RES carried on with regular activities indoors as our partners at CSPD carried out their mission, and our students and staff remained safe. Administrators lifted the lockout when CSPD gave the all clear, approximately 40 minutes after the initial alert.

D49 thanks our law enforcement partners and encourages all of our staff, students and families to stay alert and report any suspicious activity. We will stay proactive and partner with local law enforcement to ensure a safe learning environment awaits every District 49 learner.

Sincerely,

David Nancarrow
Director of Communications
